"Old TCCMB" Post Archive Discovered
« on: June 12, 2019, 08:13:27 PM »
Hello Everyone,

I feel like I have again met an old, dear friend after many years...

I discovered the (almost) complete TCCMB Archives from 1998 to 2004 on one of my back-up CDs.

My goodness, what discussions we had back in the day!  ;D

You veteran TCCMBers know what I'm talking about - tens and tens of thousands of threads and postings.

Sadly, some of our friends have passed...

Now the question is, what to do with them, so they are not lost forever?

Sometimes, I miss those days.

I suppose I could publish them, as I owned the copyright to the site. It would be a shame to lose that body
of work forever - and not share it.

I'm just rambling here, and asking for ideas...

p.s. It is great reading even today! :)

John

Hmmm... I wonder if there is a way to import them here? - what format are they in?

Or at least put them online as a static webpage under the TCCMB.com domain - it would be a shame to lose all that content (although I might regret that remark - I probably wrote some stuff back then that will come back and bite me now!)

Hi Austin,

That sounds fantastic - the possibility I mean...  8)

I'll have to double (triple?) check, but they are all in zipped archive files (#1-211 I think).
The first forty or fifty zipped archive files are individual htm files threaded, with an index for each archive.
After that, they are zipped plain vanilla text files (digests)...

I suppose the logical (and easy!) way would be to just offer the zipped archive files, as was previously done.
Then offer an archive page via SMF here - maybe in the heading area somewhere.

It simply amazes me the amount of material contained in the archives...

Hi John.

I think this is a great idea.
If I remember well you also did run a kind of magazine with the help of Grayling Hill ( nick: The Hitman).
If you have those articles and you can share them, it will be fantastic.
Besides all, I am very glad to see you are well.

Waiting what will happen.

Rob

Hi Rob,

Nice to see you here, my friend!  :)

I think you are referring to CCN. We did 100 issues of that magazine.

I do have all 100 backup files for that. At one time, there was a mirror site (France, if memory serves)
which had the zip files available, I'm not sure the status of that at this time. We (me) definitely have
to set up a permanent archive somewhere for those, before I cross over to the other side, at least.

Also, I believe Eugen Demian has a backup file - I remember sending him one. He is a younger fella,
of course...

I have been publishing selected articles from CCN in my Assembling Chess series of books. I feel it
is important to preserve these things, for people to enjoy in the future.

Best Regards,
John
